I don't know if ne1 remembers the time where they held the opponent to under 70 for 4 or 5 straight games. See back then they didn't win 60+ games and they didn't resemble offensive powerhouses of the past. However they didn't fall back to zone defenses and they resembled the championship Pistons of old. When Larry Brown left and Flip Saunders came the pistons got a new swagger and it wasn't the one that brought them a championship in 2004 and to a seventh game in the finals in 2005. They won more but they didn't win the same way, the way that guaranteed playoff victories. Now we see the product. A team that didn't rely on holding teams to 70 point games but rather on the clutch play of a Chauncey Billups that we see doesn't always prevail. We see a team that might not even get to the finals because they can't stop the Cleveland Cavs one of the most unstable offensive teams in the playoffs. There was an opportunity for a dominant dynasty to be formed in 2004. However one loss in game seven of the finals leads the team to take a whole new direction and its not one of a true champion. 0 Comments |
